Mogadishu – The Federal Government of Somalia has called for the dissolution of the C6+ group, a coalition of international partners that includes the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, African Union, United Nations, IGAD, as well as Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sweden.
The group was formed 15 years ago to support Somalia during its transitional period.
In a formal communication, Somali officials argued that the continued existence of the C6+ framework gives the “misleading impression” that Somalia remains under externally driven political oversight.
They stressed that the country has made significant progress in rebuilding its institutions and now seeks to define its partnerships on the basis of equal and respectful bilateral cooperation.
The C6+ format, once instrumental in coordinating international support for Somalia, is now viewed by Mogadishu as outdated and incompatible with its current political and diplomatic aspirations.
The Somali government is expected to pursue new bilateral agreements with key partners as part of its effort to restructure international engagement.
