Somalia Warned against Dragging Kenya into its Domestic Affairs

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has been warned against dragging Kenya into its domestic affairs.

On January 28, the Kenyan government issued a statement directed at the Somali leadership to this effect.

Cyrus Oguna, the spokesperson of the Kenyan government, issued the statement on Thursday urging Somalia not to drag Nairobi in its internal affairs.

The statement was the second by Kenya against Somalia following the release of a report prepared by a fact-finding mission of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Oguna warned that Kenya would not be drawn into Somalia’s internal politics.

Kenya’s response to Somalia followed the deadly skirmishes that broke out in Bula Hawa, a town along the border between the two nations.

During the skirmishes, over 11 people lost their lives while dozens more were injured and airlifted to Mogadishu for medical treatment.

Oguna called the Bula Hawa skirmishes a “local Somali issue.”

Furthermore, he said that the Somalia’s accusations against Kenya were designed to divert Somalis away from real issues affecting them.
