Somalia Warned of Worsening Food Insecurity by May 2022

The United Nations has warned Somalia to brace for a much worse food insecurity by May 2022.

On November 15, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), published a report on this issue.

According to the OCHA report, many households in the country could struggle to cope with food insecurity.

OCHA based its report on the Somalia 2021 Post Gu Seasonal Food Security and Nutrition Assessment.

The organization mentioned that close to 3.5 million people are likely to be at risk of severe food insecurity and shortage.

Around 640,730 of them would have to grapple with a severe emergency.

OCHA blames this situation on the delayed October-December rains.

Consequently, OCHA has called for humanitarian assistance for more than 5.9 million people in Somalia.
