On Thursday, Somalia asked Kenya, its Horn of Africa neighbor, to stop meddling in its internal affairs.
Somalia states that Kenya has been violating its sovereignty. The country’s leadership blames Kenya for encroaching areas along the border that separates the two nations.
The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that it will institute several measures against Kenya to resolve this standoff.
It says the country will pursue diplomatic efforts to ensure that it protects Somalia’s unity and sovereignty.
Meanwhile, Somalia has thanked Kenya for sending soldiers to serve under AMISOM. The soldiers are also part of the group fighting Al-Shabaab militants in the country.
However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says, “For all the good Kenya has done, we will not stand by and watch it overstepping its mandate.”
Somalia accuses Kenya of abusing its membership in AMISOM and interfering in the internal affairs of a sovereign country.
Kenya and Somalia have been engaged in a diplomatic row since 2019. Their maritime row is over 62,000 square miles of the Indian Ocean that is rich in oil and gas.
