The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has welcomed the announcement of the peace agreement between Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
Ethiopia and TPLF have been on a warpath for the last few years.
Last year, the fight caused the deaths of thousands of people, the displacement of thousands more, and the destruction of countless properties.
On November 4, FGS released a statement through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on the peace agreement signed between the two sides.
In the statement, FGS commended African Union (AU) for supporting the peace talks.
It also congratulated South Africa for providing a venue for the peace talks to take place.
Further, the Somali government also hailed the important contribution Kenya made in leading the talks through ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Somalia expressed hope that the agreement signals the end of armed conflicts between Ethiopia and TPLF.
It also hopes that the agreement paves the way for a reconciliation that ends all violence as well as strife and any talk of secession.
