Somalia Welcomes the Resumption of Flights from Qatar Airways

Somalia has welcomed the news that Qatar Airways has resumed its flights to the East African country’s capital.

The global airlines powerhouse announced that it would resume its flights to Mogadishu from September 6, 2020.

Qatar Airways has been unable to travel to Somalia since March when the government banned international flights as one of the measures for curbing the spread of COVID-19.

Akbar Al Baker, the Chief Executive Office of Qatar Airways Group, said his company is “delighted” to resume flights to Mogadishu.

Consequently, Mogadishu becomes the ninth destination in Africa to be served by Qatar Airways during these COVID-19 times.

The firm has already resumed flights to Zanzibar, Tunis, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, Kigali, Djibouti, Dar es Salaam, and Addis Ababa.

In early August, the government of Somalia announced plans to lift the ban imposed on international flights.
