Somalia, WFP Address Audit Findings to Boost Aid Accountability

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Office of the Auditor General of Somalia (OAG) on Wednesday hosted a consultative meeting with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Office of the Accountant General to review the 2024 Financial Audit findings and chart a way forward on implementing key recommendations.

The session, also attended by representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, focused on strengthening transparency in aid delivery, improving data integrity, and tightening oversight of beneficiary systems. Officials agreed to establish a joint technical committee that will enhance data sharing among Somali institutions and international partners while ensuring compliance with the OAG’s recommendations.

The OAG underscored the importance of robust accountability mechanisms to maintain donor confidence and ensure that humanitarian resources reach the most vulnerable communities without diversion or misuse.

The Office of the Accountant General highlighted the need for stronger financial controls and harmonized reporting to align with Somalia’s ongoing public financial management reforms.

WFP Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Somali authorities to improve efficiency, oversight, and transparency in aid programs. The collaboration was described as a critical step in reinforcing Somalia’s governance reforms and advancing accountability in the management of external assistance.

The meeting forms part of a broader reform agenda championed by the Federal Government of Somalia to strengthen financial integrity, reduce risks of mismanagement, and build greater trust with development partners.
