The Somali woman caught in a viral video competing at the FISU World University Games in China is neither a runner nor a sportsperson.
Mohamed Barre Mohamud, the federal Minister of Sports, stated this on Wednesday when sending the Chairwoman of the Somali Athletics Federation on suspension pending investigations.
The runner, identified as Nasro Abukar Ali, is reportedly a niece to Ms. Khadijo Aden Dahir, the suspended Chairwoman of the Athletics Federation.
Somalia Olympic Committee approved Dahir’s suspension stating that she had been found guilty of abuse of power and nepotism.
The Olympic Committee added that Dahir and her niece defamed the name and reputation of Somalia on the international scene.
