Somalia’s Ambassador to the UN Delivers Speech on Arms Embargo

Ambassador Abukar Osman delivered a keynote speech to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the arms embargo on Somalia.

Amb. Osman, who is Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, delivered the speech on Thursday, November 17.

In his speech Amb. Osman urged the members of the UNSC to lift the arms embargo.

The UN established the arms embargo on Somalia back in 1992 when civil war broke out in the East African nation through UNSC Resolution 733.

Since then, Somalia has repeatedly appealed for a lifting of the arms embargo unsuccessfully.
