Somalia’s Auditor General says that no government official should sign any concession agreement before the country concludes its elections.
The Auditor General spoke following the recent hullaballoo in the country regarding the validity of the oil deal that Somalia signed with a United States firm.
Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum signed the controversial deal with Coastline Exploration Ltd of the US.
Recently, the Auditor General summoned the minister for a meeting to understand the circumstances surrounding the signing of the agreement.
On May 5, Auditor General Mohamed Ali Afgoi directed all government agencies and officials not to enter into, initiate, or implement any concession agreement.
He said that the agencies and officials would have to wait until the country concludes all elections to sign such agreements.
Any agency or official who signs such agreements should be ready to face the consequences, the Auditor General stated.
