Somalia’s Central Bank denied reports circulating in the media indicating that it has filed a legal suit against a local bank.
Several media outlets have been reporting that the Central Bank has instituted legal measures against a commercial bank in the country over links with Al-Shabaab.
The bank called the reports “falsehoods.”
Instead, it urged the country’s media to desist spreading and reporting such falsehoods.
As the only body mandated by the country’s laws to regulate all financial institutions in the country, the Central Bank denied knowledge of any lawsuit filed against a local bank.
In the recent past, media outlets have reported that Central Bank planned to prosecute Salaam Somali Bank.
A report that the United Nations Panel of Experts submitted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) claimed that Al-Shabaab ran several accounts at Salaam Somali Bank.
