Somalia’s COVID-19 Cases Rise to 722

On Sunday, the Ministry of Health announced that Somalia’s COVID-19 cases had risen to 722 after 51 more patients tested positive to the disease.

Dr. Fawziya Abikar, the Minister of Health, said 37 of these cases were in Banadir, an administration jurisdiction that includes Mogadishu.

She also said her ministry had confirmed 12 new cases in Puntland and another 2 in central region’s Galmudug State.

Further, Dr. Abikar informed the country that one more patient had succumbed to the virulent disease hence bringing the number of deaths to 32.

Out of the latest cases, 32 were male while the rest are female.

Additionally, the health ministry announced that the country had reported 10 more recoveries to bring that number to 44.

As the disease spirals out of control, there is increased fear that the country lacks the capacity to contain it due to many factors that include a fragile health system.
