Somalia’s Defense Ministry Sets One-Year and Five-Year Plans under Fiqi

The Minister of Defence, Ambassador Ahmed Fiqi, held a high-level meeting with senior officials from the ministry to evaluate the current state of the defence sector and map out its future direction. The session focused on reviewing recent accomplishments, identifying priority areas, and establishing a clear roadmap for continued reform and modernization.

As part of the outcomes, Fiqi directed the immediate formulation of a comprehensive One-Year Work Plan to serve as a short-term operational guide. In parallel, he officially launched the development process for a Five-Year Strategic Plan aimed at institutionalizing long-term reforms, improving operational readiness, and strengthening governance within the defence establishment.

This dual-track planning initiative reflects the ministry’s renewed commitment to accountability, transparency, and performance-based management as Somalia continues to build a professional and effective national defence force capable of safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and stability.
