Somalia’s Education Ministry Discusses Class 8 Exams with Federal Member States

Abdullahi Godah Barre, the Minister of Culture and Education, held a meeting with representatives of the Federal Member States to discuss several issues affecting the education sector, especially during these COVID-19 times.

One of the pressing issues the meeting tackled was the Class 8 exams.

COVID-19 has rendered learning impossible thus forcing the Federal Government of Somalia, through the education ministry, to close all schools. Further, the closure affects all religious schools too.

After the meeting, the Ministry of Education released a statement saying that Federal Member States will hold the Class 8 exams. The education ministry will supervise the exams to ensure that they retain their integrity, the statement clarified.

The meeting between the various stakeholders took place via Zoom in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

Further, the education ministry directed teachers to continue offering online classes to prepare students for the upcoming exams. The minister said schools would remain closed to protect students, teachers, and other staff from the deadly disease.
