Somalia’s Education Ministry Lists Key Achievements of 2024

Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education has listed its key achievements for 2024.

Teacher Recruitment

It hired 3,000 additional teachers to strengthen the education workforce and improve access to quality education around the country.

Girls’ Scholarships

It provided scholarships to 3,000 girls thereby promoting gender equity in education.

Higher Education Act

One of the education ministry’s main accomplishments of 2024 was the development and approval of Somalia’s first-ever Higher Education Act to regulate and improve tertiary education.

Foundational Year Program

The introduction of a foundational year program at universities to enhance academic readiness is one of the ministry’s primary achievements of the year.

Sudan Scholarships

The ministry was at the forefront of facilitating scholarships for Somali students to study in Sudan, fostering international educational cooperation.

Expanded National Exams

It extended the National Secondary School Examination to previously unreached areas, including SSC Khaatumo and regions liberated from extremist control too.

Local Higher Education Scholarships

The ministry successfully awarded scholarships to 250 students for pursuing higher education locally.

Somali Studies Congress

Successfully hosted the 15th Somali Studies International Association Congress in Mogadishu after 35 years, themed “Reconstructing the Somali Nation.”

These achievements mark significant progress in rebuilding Somalia’s education sector.
