Somalia’s elections is to cost the country $40 million, latest reports from the East African nation indicate.
On December 25, Dr. Abdirahman Beileh, the Minister of Finance, said that the country expects to spend $40 million in the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections.
Furthermore, Dr. Beileh clarified that the country would be meeting 10 percent of the costs.
Beileh also announced that international partners are to cater for 90 percent of the cost of Somalia’s elections.
The news regarding the cost of elections comes amid increased pressure locally and internationally on the outgoing administration’s handling of the elections.
Elections are expected to kick off in late December 2020.
Presidential elections have been penciled in for February 2021 although these might be postponed as the opposition leads calls for reconstitution of the electoral body.
