Somalia’s Ex-President Calls for Inclusive Dialogue

A former President of Somalia encouraged the country’s leadership to embrace an “inclusive dialogue” to solve the ongoing pre-election spat.

Ex-President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said this on December 31, 2020 during the annual forum of the Heritage Institute for Policy Studies (HIPS).

This year’s HIPS forum is taking place in Garowe, Puntland.

Mohamud told participants at the gathering that an “inclusive dialogue” could end the electoral impasse the country is experiencing now.

Somalia appears unable to hold timely elections.

The country was scheduled to hold local and parliamentary elections in December 2020 but this has been pushed to January 2021.

Similarly, there are doubts whether the East African nation would be able to hold presidential polls in February 2021, as previously scheduled.
