Somalia’s Federal Government Waives Taxes on Various Medical Services

The announcement by Deputy Minister of Finance Abdiqafar Hange regarding the waiver of taxes on various hospital medical services is a significant step towards supporting healthcare providers and improving patient care.

Effective from 29 January 2025, this policy will apply to key services such as outpatient care, maternity services, surgeries, ward patient care, emergency care, and medical examinations.

By removing the tax burden on these essential services, the government aims to accomplish various objectives.

Hospitals and medical facilities will have more financial flexibility, enabling them to invest in better equipment, infrastructure, and staff training.

With reduced operational costs, healthcare providers can allocate more resources towards improving the quality of care for patients.

The tax waiver may encourage healthcare facilities to broaden their services, making healthcare more accessible to the population.

This move reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector and ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder the delivery of essential medical services.

It is also a proactive measure to address the challenges faced by healthcare providers, particularly in the wake of increasing demand for medical services.
