The first mobile money tech app in Somalia has been launched. Hormuud, one of the largest telcom companies in the country, launched the app that goes by the same name.
Hormuud’s app will be known as Waafi.
The app isn’t just limited to mobile money services. It also provides communication and entertainment services to clients.
In addition to that, Waafi allows users to make payments, access their bank accounts, and perform a wide array of financial transactions online.
Somalis who are outside the country can also use it to send international remittances or make phone calls to friends and loved ones within Somalia or internationally.
Ahmed Mohammed Yusuf, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of Hormuud, said that the firm developed the app to push Somalia’s efforts towards creating a truly cashless economy.
