Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Hands Over a Check of $50,000 from OIC to Health Ministry

Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over a check worth $50,000 from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to the Ministry of Health.

The funds are to help the health ministry to tackle the effects of COVID-19.

Dr. Fawziya Abikar Nur, the Minister of Health, received the check from Ambassador Mohamed Ali-Nur Haji, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The check was from OIC’s Islamic Solidarity Fund.

According to the two ministries, the finances would go into tackling the health, social, economic, and humanitarian impact of the novel coronavirus around the country.

Abdirizak Siyad Abdi, the Somalia’s Permanent Representative to OIC, attended the handing over ceremony at the headquarters of the health ministry in Mogadishu.

The funding is the second from the foreign affairs ministry to the health ministry.

On April 16, Ambassador Nur submitted a check worth $100,000 from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to the health ministry to boost the fight against COVID-19.
