Somalia’s Ministry of Health has condemned the recent brutal murder of three humanitarian workers by Al-Shabaab militants.
The workers were part of a team of volunteers involved in the ongoing polio immunization campaign around the country.
The health ministry in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) had hired them.
Security agencies in the country confirmed that the volunteers were killed while on duty in Kahda District.
“We would like to condemn in the strongest terms possible the recent brutal and senseless murder of three of our volunteers,” the health ministry said.
It also sent its “deepest condolences” to the victims and prayed that Allah would grant those who were injured immediate recovery.
