Somalia’s International Partners Encouraged by Upcoming National Consultative Council Convention

International partners have expressed their encouragement at the news that Somalia would be holding a National Consultative Council (NCC) Convention soon.

The convention is set for Monday, December 27, 2021.

During next week’s convention, participants from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Federal Member States (FMS), and opposition would discuss ongoing elections.

Different players have voiced concerns at the rigging and fraud in the ongoing polls.

The East African nation is currently holding elections for House of the People seats.

On December 23, the country’s international partners issued a statement welcoming next week’s in-person NCC meeting in Mogadishu.

In the statement, the international partners reiterated their call for “full transparency in all elections-related processes.”

They indicated their support for processes that adhere to the electoral agreements signed on September 17, 2020 and May 27, 2021.
