Somalia’s leading opposition party, Himilo Party, has vehemently condemned the arrest of former Hiiraan region governor Abdifatah Hassan Afrah by National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officers on Saturday.
In condemning the arrest, the opposition party described the detention as “kidnapping” while demanding his immediate and unconditional release.
Afrah, a member of the opposition party led by former president and current House of People lawmaker Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, was detained after being turned away at Mogadishu Airport while attempting to travel to his constituency in Beledweyne town.
Authorities have not yet commented on the situation.
