Somalia’s New COVID-19 Cases Increase by 34

On Monday, the Ministry of Health announced 34 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, which increased the tally to 1,455.

Dr. Fawziya Abikar, the country’s health minister, also announced one more death from the virulent disease, which brings the number of deaths to 57.

As for recoveries, the health ministry announced 11 more. Consequently, the country is now able to report 163 recoveries.

According to Dr. Abikar, 21 of the new cases are male while the remaining 13 are female. She also indicated that all the new cases are via community transmission.

Dr. Abikar pleaded with her fellow citizens to adhere to the measures imposed and proposed by the government and the World Health Organization (WHO) to curb the spread of the disease.

Somalia remains one of the worst hit countries in the Horn of Africa region, which experts have blamed on various factors such as a fragile health system after decades of internal fighting.
