Mohamed Abdirizak, the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, has promised to continue praying for peace in the region.
Abdirizak made this statement while commenting on the Ethiopian crisis for the first time since assuming office at the end of November.
He was appointed the new Minister of Foreign Affairs to replace Ambassador Ahmed Isse Awad who was sacked after denying that Somalia supports the Ethiopian government.
Awad’s comments followed a statement issued by the foreign affairs ministry stating that Somalia supports the action by the Ethiopian government against Tigray rebels.
On Tuesday, December 1, Abdirizak called the Ethiopian conflict “an internal affair.”
Abdirizak said that Somalia has never taken pleasure in any conflict in the region and would never stop advocating for peaceful coexistence and regional stability.
He promised not to send Somali troops to intervene in the Ethiopian conflict.
The new foreign affairs minister denied reports of Somalia’s involvement in the fighting, which he called “unreasonable.”
