Somalia’s Old Embassy in Nairobi Reopened

The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has reopened its Embassy in Nairobi.

The old building has been rebuilt and refurbished to spruce it up for the grand reopening, which took place on Saturday, November 14.

Somalia and Kenya have not enjoyed warm diplomatic relations for the last year.

However, the embassy was closed several years ago.

According to sources, the embassy was closed in 1995.

Several people have played a role in ensuring that the embassy is reopened. These include lawyers, Somali elders, diplomats, and politicians.

The building housing the embassy was grabbed and sold to an Asian family once the government of Siad Barre collapsed.

Its ownership has been restored to the hands of the Somalia government.
