Somalia’s newly-elected President has expressed his sadness at the news that an inferno destroyed several businesses in Mogadishu on the evening of May 19.
President-Elect Hassan Sheikh Mohamud issued a statement on Friday expressing solidarity with the traders who lost their premises and assets to the fire on Thursday evening.
Initial assessments indicate that property valued at more than $30 million was destroyed in the inferno.
Furthermore, reports show that the inferno reduced close to 40 business premises to ashes.
In his message to the traders, President-Elect Mohamud said that he shares their pain and grief during these trying moments.
