Somalia’s Schools to be Reopened on August 15

The Ministry of Education in Somalia has announced that all schools would be reopened for learning from August 15, which is this Saturday.

Schools around the country were closed in April following a spike in COVID-19 cases.

The government closed all learning institutions as one of the measures designed to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abdullahi Godah Bare, Somalia’s Minister of Education, announced that all schools had demonstrated a capacity for adhering to the COVID-19 protocols that the ministry put in place.

Additionally, he stated that it is now a requirement for all learners to wear facemasks while observing social distancing.

Currently, Somalia has recorded 3,227 COVID-19 cases. Its tally of recoveries stands at 1,728 while 93 people have succumbed to the disease.

Although the country never reported any COVID-19 case on Monday in its latest figures, the exact number of tests carried out remains unknown since mid-April.
