Somalia’s Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development organized a workshop for all stakeholders to review the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) report.
Representatives from the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and civil society organizations were present at the workshop too.
Deqa Yasin, the Minister of Women and Human Rights Development, was the keynote speaker.
In her address, she reminded the participants that Somalia had ratified the ICCPR report on January 24, 1990.
According to Yasin, it is time for Somalia to get over the fact that the country had never reviewed or prepared an initial report on ICCPR over the last 29 years.
During the workshop, which took place on Sunday October 11, participants would be discussing and reviewing different sections of the report to determine how it applies in the local context.
