Somaliland Alarmed over Increase in Number of Fake Dollars

Authorities in Somaliland are alarmed over the increasing presence of fake currency, especially United States dollars (US$).

Ali Jama Baqdadi, the Governor of the Central Bank of Somaliland, said that the government has put all the measures in place to detect fake US$.

According to Baqdadi, the fake US$ are finding their way into the country through Mogadishu, the capital city of Somalia.

The Central Bank governor also stated that the fake dollars are then smuggled to Ethiopia through Wajale, a town along Somaliland’s border with Ethiopia.

Baqdadi reminded those responsible for the influx of the fake dollars that such a habit is extremely harmful to the local economy.
