The technical committees formed in Djibouti to take charge of the Somalia-Somaliland negotiations have reached a historic five-point deal.
Mohamud Ali Yusuf, Djibouti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that the two sides had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) based on the following five points:
- Code of conduct guiding all future negotiations
- Confidence building
- Implementing all past agreements
- Three subcommittees formed on security, airspace, and aid/investment to meet in the next 15 days
- A joint ministerial committee to meet again in 45 days
Abdi Mohamed Sabrie, Somalia’s Minister of Interior, reiterated his government’s commitment to conducting genuine negotiations with Somaliland.
Sabrie said that the five-point deal reached in Djibouti this week indicates the commitment by the two sides to continue joint discussions to iron out the differences between them.
