Somaliland and Taiwan Vow to Cooperate on Health

Somaliland and Taiwan have vowed to cooperate on health.

The two breakaway nations, which established diplomatic relations in July 2020, made this announcement on January 8, 2021.

The announcement came when Mohamed Haji, the Somaliland Representative to Taiwan, met with Dr. Ko Wen-Je, the Mayor of Taipei at Taipei City Hall on Friday.

During their meeting, the two leaders also announced that Hargeisa and Taipei would establish a sister city relationship between themselves.

Haji and Dr. Wen-Je said that their respective cities would sign a partnership agreement soon.

Additionally, the Somaliland Representative held discussions with several Taiwan officials, including Dr. Jenmg Fong Chiou, Dr. Po-Li Wie, and Prof. Chia-Kwung Fan.

Dr. Chiou is the Superintendent of the Taipei Medical University Hospital while Dr. Wie is the Vice Superintendent at the same institution.

Following the Friday discussions, Taipei Medical University Hospital and Hargeisa Group Hospital are set to work together to modernize health system in Somaliland.
