Somaliland Authorities Rescue 10 Cheetah Cubs from Illegal Wildlife Trade

On Sunday, authorities in Somaliland announced that they rescued 10 cheetah cubs from illegal trade in wildlife.

The rescue took place a few days after it emerged that Somaliland is one of the hotspots for illegal wildlife trade in the region.

On October 18, police rescued the cubs before handing them over to the Ministry of Environment and Rural Development.

Police then arrested the two individuals who were in custody of the cheetah cubs.

According to the police, the two individuals were on the verge of smuggling the cubs to Yemen when they nabbed.

Authorities confirmed that the incident took place in Heedho District, which is north of Hargeisa.

Police carried out the operation with the support of officials from the environment and rural development ministry.
