Somaliland Football Team Denied Permission to Visit Mogadishu

A football club in Somaliland has been denied permission to visit the capital of Somalia – Mogadishu.

Buroa Municipality’s football team was scheduled to visit Mogadishu to take part in a friendly match. However, the tour has now been cancelled.

Osman Mohamed Osman, who is the football team’s Secretary General, confirmed the news early today.

During a press conference held on the matter, Osman said the municipality was unaware of the impending friendly match.

The football club had announced its intentions to travel to Mogadishu for a series of friendly matches with local clubs based in the Somali capital.

Last week, representatives of Somalia and Somaliland met in Djibouti and signed an agreement that sets the stage for social integration and free movement between the two countries.

Reports indicate that the friendly matches organized in Mogadishu were part of the steps taken to cool the tension between the two countries.
