Somaliland Government Cancels All Eid-ul-Fitr Activities over COVID-19

On Wednesday, the government of Somaliland announced that all Eid-ul-Fitr activities in the country remain banned to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Consequently, President Musa Bihi Abdi’s administration has clarified that all gatherings and activities such as mass prayers would not take place in the country.

Imams and all religious leaders have been directed not to conduct mass prayers in mosques or stadiums and other public places to prevent COVID-19 from spreading further in the country.

The government announced the latest ban after a meeting of the COVID-19 Committee in Somaliland.

Travel restrictions remain in place either outside or inside the country. The ban on all forms of public transportation has been left in place too.

Children would not be able to access public parks during Eid-ul-Fitr either.
