Somaliland Government Reduces 10% Taxation on Essential Items

The government of Somaliland has reduced the unpopular 10 percent taxation on essential items.

Dr. Saad Ali Shire, the Minister of Finance, announced this respite for Somaliland traders on February 20.

The finance minister stated that the government took this measure to reduce the high cost of living occasioned by the high prices of food items.

Henceforth, Somaliland traders would enjoy tax cuts.

Meanwhile, the government announcement also means container tax exemptions.

While announcing the new tax measures, Dr. Shire encouraged traders to stop harassing members of the public.

He also urged traders to not only be compassionate but also stop raising prices.
