The government of Somaliland has promised to deliver free food to over 40,000 families around the country because of restrictions put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.
President Musa Bihi Abdi’s administration has admitted that some of the restrictions make it harder for the people of Somaliland to fend for themselves and their families.
This happened as the cabinet met to deliberate on the issue of the skirmishes taking place in El Afweyne and Fadhi Gaab areas.
During the same meeting, Abdirahman Sayli’i, who serves as the Vice President and is the Chairperson of the National Committee against COVID-19, said they would feed 40,000 families.
Sayli’i said the COVID-19, with the support of the government, has drafted a social protective plan to deliver free food to more than 40,000 households countrywide.
He said the move is meant to mitigate the earlier restrictions the government imposed on March 17, which include lockdowns, curfews, and ban on domestic and international flights.
