The government of Somaliland held a two-day workshop on constitutional law for members of the public.
The workshop was a joint effort between the Ministry of National Assemblies and Constitutional Affairs and the Ministry of Justice.
Representatives from various sections of the society were invited to the workshop, which took place in Hargeisa, Somaliland’s capital.
Mohamed Haji Adam, the Minister of National Assemblies and Constitutional Affairs attended the event.
During his address, Adam told participants that the workshop offered them a chance to listen to what experts on the constitution have to say.
In his view, Adam said that Somaliland boasts of one of the best constitutions in the world even though locals do not apply it well.
The Director General in the Ministry of Justice said, “The creation of the constitution is traceable to 1991 when we broke away from Somalia and became an independent nation.”
Dr. Amal Ali, a constitutional expert, said that the workshop offered a way for identifying areas in the constitution that need improvement.
He said that the purpose of any constitution is to deliver justice hence the never-ending quest for improvement.
