Somaliland is Largest Conduit for Trafficking Cheetahs to the Gulf

Somaliland has been ranked the largest conduit for the illicit trafficking of cheetahs to the Gulf States, which are notorious for their love of exotic animals.

In July this year, authorities rescued two cheetah cubs from the hands of traffickers who had captured and locked them up for 25 days.

Between July and August this year, authorities in Somaliland rescued 20 cheetah cubs.

People within the local community helped to take care of the cubs before handing them over to Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF).

Authorities carried out more than five rescue missions in the country.

The rescue team comprised the Ministry of Environment and Rural Development, Somaliland police, Selel regional administration, CCF, and Torrid Analytics.
