Somaliland Launches Visa on Arrival to Boost Travel and Business

Hargeisa, Somaliland – The Minister of Civil Aviation and Airports Development, Fu’aad Ahmed Nuux, on Thursday briefed the Council of Ministers on the government’s new Visa on Arrival policy, a landmark initiative aimed at making Somaliland more accessible to international travelers and investors.

Under the new system, visitors can obtain entry visas directly at Egal International Airport in Hargeisa as well as other airports across the country. The move replaces the previous lengthy application process and is expected to encourage greater inflows of tourists, businesspeople, and development partners.

Fu’aad emphasized that official notifications have already been issued to all airlines operating in Somaliland to ensure full compliance with the country’s immigration laws and procedures. Airlines are required to align their operations with the new framework to facilitate seamless passenger entry.

“This reform represents Somaliland’s commitment to openness, investment, and international cooperation,” he noted, underscoring the policy’s role in reducing bureaucratic barriers while safeguarding security and regulatory standards.

The government believes the policy will not only enhance the country’s profile as a business-friendly destination but also strengthen ties with the diaspora and international community. Officials say the change is part of a broader strategy to modernize aviation services, improve airport facilities, and integrate Somaliland into regional and global travel networks.

Analysts view the initiative as a timely step that could stimulate economic growth by boosting tourism, trade, and foreign investment, while providing travelers with a smoother entry experience.
