Somaliland on Path to International Recognition after Attracting Mega Projects

Somaliland is on its way to earning international recognition after attracting investments for mega projects to be carried out in the country.

After the recent talks between President Mohamed Farmaajo of Somalia and President Muse Bihi Abdi of Somaliland, the latter has successfully lobbied for funds for four mega projects.

During the Djibouti talks, Somaliland reiterated its stance that it is a separate nation from Somalia, from which it broke away in 1991.

Consequently, the administration of President Bihi continues to insist that Somaliland has to be treated as an independent nation by the international community.

The fact that Bihi’s administration has lobbied successfully for funding for the four huge projects shows that international recognition is creeping in.

On Sunday, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Netherlands approved funding for Second Phase of the Somaliland Development Fund (SDF2) program.

Through the SDF2 program, the country would make huge strides in improving its critical infrastructure while enhancing economic growth.
