Chaos and mayhem erupted in Somaliland’s parliament on December 13.
Monday’s chaos was the result of a massive disagreement between Members of Parliament (MPs) from various political parties.
Apparently, some of the MPs were reacting to the recent announcement by President Muse Bihi Abdi that his administration had opened registration of more political parties.
MPs allied to the opposition Wadani and UCID parties opposed Bihi’s directive.
It’s alleged that they were unhappy with the amendment that Saleban Ali Koore, the Minister of Information, had brought to parliament proposing the new order.
Currently, Somaliland’s law only allows three parties to exist.
One of these parties is Kulmiye, which is Bihi’s party. The other two – Wadani and UCID – currently make up the opposition.
MPs fought on Monday after disagreeing on the proposal to register more parties.
