Political parties in Somaliland have thrown their weight behind the decision by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) to hold elections on May 31, 2021.
On January 17, NEC announced the new date for elections.
Immediately after, three political parties in the breakaway region of Somaliland announced their satisfaction with the date.
On Saturday, NEC held a meeting with President Muse Bihi Abdi and Vice President Abdirahman Sayli’i in Hargeisa.
Afterward, it announced the new date.
The three main parties that have expressed satisfaction with the date are Kulmiye (the ruling party), Wadani, and UCID.
