Somaliland police arrested three journalists during a live online debate on X (formerly Twitter) on the merits and demerits of the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
Those arrested in the incident were Mohammed Abdi Sheikh, Mohamed Abdi Abdillahi, and Ilyaas Abdinasir.
Sheikh is the owner of the MMTV.
They were taken to a police station in Hargeisa, the capital city of Somaliland, following their arrest during the debate on Saturday night.
The MoU between Ethiopia and Somaliland, which was signed on January 1, 2024, has elicited condemnation and protests all over Somalia in the last few weeks.
