Somaliland Police Force officers have come under serious scrutiny for the beating handed out to a female journalist.
Reports indicate that Hodo Gareys, a local journalist, was beaten together with her mother on February 19.
The incident reportedly took place at Qudhac Dheer Central Police Station in Hargeisa.
Now, one of the country’s main opposition parties has spoken out on the matter.
Wadani Party’s Mohamed Sadik Dhame blasted the police for committing such a “shameful and cowardly act.”
Dhame said that the actions by the police were a “serious violation of the basic human rights” of Gareys and her mother.
In its statement, the opposition party urged the police chief to take action against the perpetrators as soon as possible.
