Somaliland government seized and destroyed over 200kgs of contraband Khat in Hargeisa. Further, the police also impounded cars that had been used to transport the substance.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Saqadhi Dubad, the National Police Commissioner, was on hand to supervise the entire exercise.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister of Interior, the Director General in the Office of the President, and the Regional Governor also attended the event.
Elsewhere in Lasanodof Sool, a Toyota Land Cruiser was also captured and burned together with all its cargo in a public square.
Members of the public applauded the move.
Col. Mohamed Suleiman Goni, who is the Regional Police Commissioner, announced army units and the regional police jointly organized the exercise.
Khat has been banned in the country since April 26, 2020. The government announced that Khat would remain a banned substance for the next 25 days.
