Somaliland Prepares for May 2021 Elections by Commencing Training of Electoral Officials

Somaliland is proceeding with the training of electoral officials as part of its efforts designed to prepare for the upcoming elections.

The breakaway country is to hold elections in May 31, 2021.

Currently, the Somaliland National Electoral Commission (NEC) is training officials who will be in charge of elections at the regional and district level.

Local council and parliamentary elections are scheduled for May 2021 in the East African nation.

Abdirashi Ali, the Chairman of the Somaliland NEC, confirmed that the training exercise kicked off on January 30.

Ali said that the training would take place in phases in all territories around the country.

The first phase of the training exercise kicks off in Sahil, Awdal, and Marodi-Jeeh.

Clerks and returning officers are to be trained in the second phase of the training, which would kick off in Sool and Togdheer Sanaag.
