Hargeisa, Somaliland – President Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Irro presided over the 20th session of the Council of Ministers on Thursday at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa, alongside Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi. The session highlighted the administration’s strong commitment to national unity, stability, and development.
A central theme of the meeting was preparation for the 34th Anniversary of the Reassertion of Somaliland’s Sovereignty, which will be commemorated on 18 May 2025.
The Council emphasized the significance of this day, describing it as more than a national holiday — calling it a living testament to the will, dignity, and enduring spirit of the people of Somaliland.
“May 18 stands as a powerful symbol of our collective journey toward peace, democracy, and self-determination,” the Council declared in a joint statement, underlining the day’s significance for both citizens at home and Somalilanders in the diaspora.
The Council also reiterated the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, enhance security, and promote national unity as the anniversary approaches, promising widespread celebrations to honor the achievements of the people over the past three decades.
