Somaliland Refugee Camp Destroyed by Fire Receives Aid from Saudi Arabia

Over 2,200 refugees in a camp in Hargeisa, Somaliland that is full of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) received tons of donations from Saudi Arabia.

The donation was the joint effort of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) and Somaliland’s National Displacement and Refugee Agency (NDRA).

IDPs at the camp, which was recently consumed by fire, received 45 tons comprising food and materials needed for shelter.

Youssef Al-Rahma, who is the Assistant Director of the African branch of KSRelief, said, “The donation is our response to the distress calls sent by NDRA after fire destroyed the camp.”

Al-Rahma said the donation included 380 food baskets to be shared out among the affected families.

He also said the affected families are entitled to mattresses, blankets, plastic sheeting, mats, and kitchen tools.

The head of Somaliland’s NDRA, Abdulkarim Ahmed Mohamed, expressed his gratitude and that of the government to King Salman and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman for the aid.

NDRA’s Mohamed said KSRelief was the only international humanitarian organization that responded to his country’s call for help with the refugee camp.
