The government of Somaliland has rejected the proposed deployment of Turkish naval forces within its maritime zones.
Through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Somaliland issued a statement on this matter on Wednesday.
In it, Somaliland opposed the presence of Turkey’s navy in its waters.
Turkey is expected to deploy its navy in Somalia’s maritime zones as part of a defense agreement the two nations signed earlier this year.
Last week, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey presented the motion to parliament.
Somaliland’s rejection of any potential deployment of Turkish naval forces within its recognized maritime zones highlights the region’s emphasis on sovereignty and control over its territorial waters.
This stance reflects Somaliland’s broader efforts to assert its autonomy and manage its own security affairs independently.
